On Friday, Utah Helicopter instructors and students took a 'field trip' to Portneuf Medical Center. Helicopter pilot, Phil Harris, with Air Methods gave a tour of the new facility. Utah Helicopter students were able to see the hangar and check out the Life Flight helicopter--a beautiful 109 AugustaWestland.
Helicopter students and instructors experienced first-hand the complexity of the systems and design of the AugustaWestland--including NVG (this was a first experience for some). Of course, being pilots, LOTS of questions were asked and they received a very generous and detailed tour of the aircraft's operating systems and design.
Next, they toured the landing pad and the Life Flight headquarters. Pilots learned more about EMS and had the opportunity to speak with Life Flight nurse, Jeff and have him answer their questions. Jeff explained his role as a flight nurse. All who went were glad they chose to be part of this helicopter field trip!
Special thanks to Air Methods pilot, Phil and Life Flight Networks' flight nurse, Jeff!! They took lots of time to give us a great idea of the HEMS life.
